Alexis Avlamis (b. Athens 1979) uses the ancient encaustic technique to explore the complexities of memory. His practice is informed by the Platonic notion of memory as a "wax tablet" in the soul, where perception is impressed on the wax. Avlamis's work blurs the boundaries between material and imagined worlds. His work has been exhibited and collected internationally, published in poetry and literature journals. He has conducted wax painting workshops and participated in artist residencies.
